Invitation

The Budapest Center of the International Society for Hermeneutics and Science invites all the members of the ISHS andphilosophers, scientists, and graduate students with interest in hermeneutics and the sciences to reconsider the question, to summarize the results and developments of the topic and to identify new trends and approaches in the field. For these tasks we will organize a conference “Hermeneutics and Science - 2003″ in Hungary again, now in Tihany, at the lake Balaton.

Short history Ten years ago, 4-9 September 1993, a conference entitled “Hermeneutics and Science” was held in Veszprém, Hungary. An illustrious group of philosophers and scientists with an interest in the interrelations of hermeneutics and sciences discussed the following main topics:- Would hermeneutics contribute to bridging the gap between natural sciences and humanities?
- What historical conditions caused that hermeneutics and philosophy of science had so little point of contact up to now?
- What hermeneutic problems do we find at the origin of historical philosophy of science?
- What role does hermeneutics play in the investigations of scientific discovery?
- What does hermeneutics mean for scientists, who may find themselves in hermeneutic situations?During and following the Veszprém-conference the International Society for Hermeneutics and Science (ISHS) was established and has been operating to help the research and organize the academic public on the field. After numerous meetings and some publications the tenth anniversary of the formation of ISHS gives a good chance to rethink the main problems of the field again.Date and location
